Web design and development

We make it our priority to maintain a high level of understanding with web technology, but also know that not everyone is going to understand it like we do. The main aim of web development is to create a practical, easy to use application that everyone can understand.

We have selected a handful of the webs most powerful open source technologies to help us get you to where you need to be. This makes it easy for you to use and makes it easy for us to maintain consistent quality. We have made it our duty to understand these technologies inside and out.

Although we do try to make this as easy as possible, there are a small list of things that you should be aware of when considering a web designer to undertake a project.

Cross Browser Compatibility

Probably the most important thing to understand is that some web browsers may render things slightly different than others. This is due to company’s like Mozilla, Microsoft etc.. having a different opinion on what they think should be right. In recent years this is getting much better, and we are able to deal with these increasingly smaller issues.

However, there is still one browser that a small percentage of people use. Internet Explorer 6 is a very old version of the web browser by Microsoft, Internet Explorer (now version 8 going on 9 this year). IE6 has many design restrictions, and will not support modern day techniques.

As a general rule, we don’t back peddle as far as IE6 as we believe it is very quickly decreasing in popularity, and most office networks are now at least using IE7. We need to know if having websites appear seamlessly in this browser is a priority of yours, as it requires additional coding, and limits the sites design potential.

Are you computer literate?

If not, then this isn’t a problem – we just need to know. Every now and then we will get a client who has rarely ever needed to use a computer, and sometimes its taken us twice as long to explain things afterwards. This will help us determine if a content managed solution is right for you.

Using content management software is easy, but it’s still computer software. When adding functionality to a site, please be aware that more functionality may mean more stuff to understand. We always explain things as best as we can, and are always open to questions should you need help.

We currently have 2 packages for web design at the moment, for more specific requirements let us know.
